We are seeking a Junior Build & Deployment Engineer (Linux) to join our ICT service team at EUMETSAT. You will focus on Linux administration, software build and deployment, configuration management, CI/CD, and operational support across established and operationally critical systems. The role will also involve software packaging, artifact management, file transfers across separated security domains, and maintaining accurate operational procedures.
This position requires hands-on experience with Linux, Ansible, Git/GitLab, CI/CD tools, scripting, package management, and enterprise infrastructure tooling. You will work within a controlled operational environment, following documented processes while contributing to the improvement and automation of the team's systems and procedures.

You will work in a large-scale, 24/7 operational environment supporting distributed, mixed Windows and Linux systems.

The main technologies include:
  • Windows Server, PowerShell, Active Directory and Windows Registry
  • WSUS / Intune for centralised, offline patch and update management
  • MSI, NuGet and EXE software packaging and deployment
  • Ansible as the automation standard across Windows and Linux
  • GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus, Harbor and Subversion
  • VMware virtualisation and Device42 for system inventory
  • Jira and Confluence for operational tracking and documentation

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage software builds, packaging and deployments on Linux-based operational systems, following established procedures and change controls.
  • Package and publish software using tools such as Git/GitLab, Subversion, Jenkins, Maven and Make.
  • Support users with access, account and software delivery requests across the team's development and operational tooling.
  • Manage file transfers, storage and archiving, including transfers across separate security domains.
  • Investigate and resolve routine operational issues, escalating more complex anomalies with clear technical evidence.
  • Improve and maintain operational procedures and runbooks, ensuring they remain accurate and useful.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and operational processes using Bash, Python, Ansible and PowerShell where applicable.AI Security & Governance

Skills and Experience:
  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience in Linux administration, software build, deployment or a similar operational IT environment.
  • Strong Linux command-line skills and practical scripting experience with Bash and Python.
  • Experience with Git or Subversion and at least one build or CI/CD tool such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, Maven or Make.
  • Familiarity with Ansible and Linux package management, including RPM or DEB.
  • Understanding of software deployment, configuration and change management in operational environments.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate technical issues clearly.

Nice to have:
  • Experience with automated or unattended Linux installation, such as Kickstart, AutoYaST, PXE/TFTP, Foreman, Red Hat Satellite or Orcharhino.
  • Experience with Docker or Podman and exposure to Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with VMware or basic Windows administration.
  • Basic knowledge of C, C++, C# or Java, particularly the ability to understand software builds and dependencies.
