With this in mind, we are seeking a European-based Ground Segment IT Infrastructure engineer who provides engineering support for the design, deployment, review, and evolution of the ground segment IT infrastructure, ensuring it is secure, scalable, and aligned with operational and project needs. The role focuses on modern data centre and network environments, including LAN/WAN architectures, routing and switching, virtualization platforms, storage and clustering, and containerized and cloud‑based solutions.
You would have the opportunity to contribute to activities with focus on modern datacentre and network environments, including LAN/WAN architectures, routing and switching, virtualization platforms, storage and clustering, and containerized and cloud‑based solutions. You would also support automation and infrastructure‑as‑code approaches, contribute to deployment milestones and technical reviews, and ensure robust network, platform, and security operations, including identity and access management, monitoring, and incident response. Working closely with system, validation, operations, and industrial teams, the role ensures that the ground segment IT infrastructure reliably supports system integration, validation, and operational readiness.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering support for the design, implementation, and evolution of ground segment IT infrastructure solutions supporting CSC programmes.
- Support scalable, containerized, and multi‑environment IT architectures across development, test, and operational environments.
- Support deployments, technical reviews, and infrastructure‑related milestones in line with project and operational requirements.
- Design, support, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN architectures, including routing and switching, VLAN segmentation, VPN technologies, and end‑to‑end network performance optimization.
- Support datacentre environments, including hypervisors, server and storage platforms, clustering solutions, and multi‑tenant platform‑as‑a‑service environments.
- Deploy, configure, and manage infrastructure using automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code approaches.
- Support cloud platforms and container technologies for operational ground segment services.
- Contribute to network and platform security, including identity and access management, monitoring, observability, and incident response.
- Ensure infrastructure operations follow structured operational practices and service management frameworks.
- Coordinate with ground segment system engineering, subsystems engineering, operations engineering, and validation engineering teams.
- Interface with the industry responsible for the installation and deployment of IT infrastructure, supporting technical coordination and issue resolution.
- Technically assess and review industry deliverables related to ground segment IT infrastructure.
- Produce regular reporting, including monthly reports demonstrating delivered support and technical progress.
Successful Candidate:
- Demonstrate end‑to‑end delivery of mission‑critical IT infrastructure across design, deployment, operations, and evolution.
- Translate requirements into robust infrastructure architectures with a clear rationale for scalability, resilience, and security.
- Execute deployments and migrations across development, validation, and operational environments using controlled and repeatable approaches.
- Engineer, support, and optimize LAN/WAN networks, including routing, segmentation, VPNs, and end‑to‑end performance.
- Support data centre and platform environments covering compute, storage, clustering, virtualization, and multi‑tenant services.
- Provide reusable automation assets that standardize infrastructure builds, configurations, and changes.
- Implement infrastructure security and compliance controls, including identity management, monitoring, logging, and incident response.
- Conduct technical reviews and supplier oversight with clear findings, risks, recommendations, and action follow‑up.
- Coordinate effectively with system engineering, validation, operations, and industry to ensure coherent end‑to‑end solutions.
- Deliver concise, high‑quality documentation and reporting covering designs, configurations, procedures, progress, and risks.
Technical:
- Advanced use of ICT tools for virtualization (e.g., VMware, KVM, ...), automation (Terraform, Ansible, ...) and containers (Docker and Kubernetes)
- Familiar with IT architectures and solutions (e.g., networking, monitoring, ...)
- Work experience in the Space domain will be an asset
- MSc, or equivalent qualification, in a relevant technical or scientific discipline will be an asset
- Need to be an EU national and eligible to obtain EU Personal Security Clearance.
- Requires travel (approx. 10 European business trips per year)
Personality:
- Effective management of self with a track record of involvement in change in complex and demanding environments, interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Methodical and proactive, with initiative and capability to work autonomously
- Problem-solving and a creativity-oriented attitude
- Excellent communication skills, including relationship development and stakeholder management;
